The actual statue has no tears and seems to be looking down!! The picture is not retouched.

I believe that our Mother wanted to give us this sign as she wants us join her in consoling Jesus at the cross.  I publish it here as a tribute to all Mothers of the Cross on Mother's Day.

Blessed Mother Mary, your tears move our hearts to repentance and deep sorrow for our sins. We consecrate our lives to you that you may take us with you to the cross to become fully your sons and daughters, one with Jesus, in the love of the Holy Spirit, victims souls offered to our loving Father.
