SWEET JESUS
A poem by Nina Tomlinson

Sweet Jesus...

How I’d love to be the rays of light from the sun;

~ to be able open the clouds of heaven so that sinners can come in.

How I’d love to be the free wind;

~ to be able to dance with You without anyone watching.

How I’d love to be the soothing ocean;

~ to be the comfort of Your poor souls.

How I’d love to be the accepting tree;

~ to be able to live in complete surrender.

How I’d love to be the crystal rain;

~ to quench Your thirst for souls.

How I’d love to be the blue sky;

~ to be a blanket of purity.

How I’d love to be the stars;

~ to be the twinkle of Your eye.

How I’d love to be a commanding meteor;

~ to make everyone look up to You.

How I’d love to be the full moon;

~ to represent You in the Holy Eucharist.

How I’d love to be the blazing fire;

~ to be the passion of my soul.

How I’d love to be the rushing water falls;

~ to be an inspiration for others to love You.

How I’d love to be the still fountain water;

~ to be a reflection of You.

How I’d love to be Your rainbow;

~ to symbolize Your promise.

How I’d love to be the song bird;

~ to sing to You with glorious praise.

How I’d love to be a red rose;

~ to represent the beauty and pain of Your cross.

How I’d love to be a white lily;

~ to be a sign of absolute and complete purity.

How I’d love to be a butterfly;

~ to represent simplicity and humility.

How I’d love to be Your Tabernacle;

~ to be called Your prison, Your place, Your home.

How I’d love to be a Monstrance;

~ so that when others look at me, it is because of You.

How I’d love to be the fragrant incense;

~ to be able to creep into Your Tabernacle.

How I’d love to be a candle;

~ to process You to Your adorers.

How I’d love to be the hands of a priest;

~ to be honored with Your presences in the miracle of the Eucharist.

How I’d love to be Your cross,

~ to suffer with You.

How I’d love to be Your tomb;

~ to be the witness of Your resurrection.

How I’d love to be Your love;

~ to love with You.

How I’d love to be Your joy;

~ to bring smiles to You.

How I’d love to be Your light;

~ to overcome shadows.

How I’d love to be Your peace;

~ to outlive the battles.

How I’d love to be Your blood stained tear;

~ to share in Your pain.

How I’d love to be Your smile;

~ to convince everyone of Your majesty.

How I’d love to be Mother Mary’s purity;

~ to be unstained like her.

How I’d love to be her humility;

~ to accept without mumbling.

How I’d love to be her obedience;

~ to do without asking.

How I’d love to be her fiat;

~ to smile while doing.

How I’d love to be an angel;

~ to live in heaven.

How I’d love to be Your Lamb;

~ to be sacrificed.

But most of all: How I’d love to be, Sweet Jesus, Your Spouse…

And through being Your Spouse, O how I’d love to be Your saint!

Amen
