Tuesday, 7th week, ordinary time.
SIRACH 2:1-11
My son, when you come to serve the LORD,
stand in justice and fear,
prepare yourself for trials.
Be sincere of heart and steadfast,
incline your ear and receive the word of understanding,
undisturbed in time of adversity.
Wait on God, with patience, cling to him, forsake him not;
thus will you be wise in all your ways.
Accept whatever befalls you,
when sorrowful, be steadfast,
and in crushing misfortune be patient;
For in fire gold and silver are tested,
and worthy people in the crucible of humiliation.
Trust God and God will help you;
trust in him, and he will direct your way;
keep his fear and grow old therein.
You who fear the LORD, wait for his mercy,
turn not away lest you fall.
You who fear the LORD, trust him,
and your reward will not be lost.
You who fear the LORD, hope for good things,
for lasting joy and mercy.
You who fear the LORD, love him,
and your hearts will be enlightened.
Study the generations long past and understand;
has anyone hoped in the LORD and been disappointed?
Has anyone persevered in his commandments and been forsaken?
has anyone called upon him and been rebuffed?
Compassionate and merciful is the LORD;
he forgives sins, he saves in time of trouble
and he is a protector to all who seek him in truth.

Trust in the LORD and do good,
that you may dwell in the land and be fed in security.

Gospel MK 9:30-37
Jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through Galilee,
but he did not wish anyone to know about it.
He was teaching his disciples and telling them,
"The Son of Man is to be handed over to men
and they will kill him,
and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise."
But they did not understand the saying,
and they were afraid to question him.
They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house,
he began to ask them,
"What were you arguing about on the way?"
But they remained silent.
For they had been discussing among themselves on the way
who was the greatest.
Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them,
"If anyone wishes to be first,
he shall be the last of all and the servant of all."
Taking a child, he placed it in their midst,
and putting his arms around it, he said to them,
"Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me;
and whoever receives me,
receives not me but the One who sent me."
Comment: God hands over His Son in love, Jesus too gives Himself for us. We hand Him over to death. His giving in love does overcomes the power of sin. Love continues to be offered. But we must receive it. HOW: by becoming servants like Him, giving ourselves as children.
He receives our sin, our brokenness.
Sirácides o Eclesiástico 2, 1-13.
Hijo mío, si te propones servir al Señor,
prepárate para la prueba;
mantén firme el corazón y sé valiente;
no te asustes en el momento de la adversidad.
Pégate al Señor y nunca te desprendas de él,
para que seas recompensado al fin de tus días.
Acepta todo lo que te sobrevenga,
y en los infortunios ten paciencia,
pues el oro se purifica con el fuego
y el hombre a quien Dios ama, en el crisol del sufrimiento.
Confíate al Señor y él cuidará de ti;
espera en él y te allanará el camino.
Los que temen al Señor, esperen en su misericordia;
no se alejen de él y no caerán.
Los que temen al Señor, confíen en él,
porque no los dejará sin recompensa.
Los que temen al Señor, esperen sus beneficios,
su misericordia y la felicidad eterna.
Miren a sus antepasados y comprenderán.
¿Quién confió en el Señor y quedó defraudado?
¿Quién perseveró en su santo temor y fue abandonado?
¿Quién lo invocó y fue desatendido?
El Señor es clemente y misericordioso;
él perdona los pecados y salva en el tiempo de la tribulación.

Mc 9, 30-37
En aquel tiempo, Jesús y sus discípulos atravesaban Galilea, pero él no quería que nadie lo supiera, porque iba enseñando a sus discípulos. Les decía: "El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres; le darán muerte, y tres días después de muerto, resucitará". Pero ellos no entendían aquellas palabras y tenían miedo de pedir explicaciones.
Llegaron a Cafarnaúm, y una vez en casa, les preguntó: "¿De qué discutían por el camino?" Pero ellos se quedaron callados, porque en el camino habían discutido sobre quién de ellos era el más importante. Entonces Jesús se sentó, llamó a los Doce y les dijo: "Si alguno quiere ser el primero, que sea el último de todos y el servidor de todos".
Después, tomando a un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos, lo abrazó y les dijo: "El que reciba en mi nombre a uno de estos niños, a mí me recibe. Y el que me reciba a mí, no me recibe a mí, sino a aquel que me ha enviado".
