Reading GN 17:3-9
When Abram prostrated himself, God spoke to him:
"My covenant with you is this:
you are to become the father of a host of nations.
No longer shall you be called Abram;
your name shall be Abraham,
for I am making you the father of a host of nations.
I will render you exceedingly fertile;
I will make nations of you;
kings shall stem from you.
I will maintain my covenant with you
and your descendants after you
throughout the ages as an everlasting pact,
to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
I will give to you
and to your descendants after you
the land in which you are now staying,
the whole land of Canaan, as a permanent possession;
and I will be their God."
God also said to Abraham:
"On your part, you and your descendants after you
must keep my covenant throughout the ages."

Look to the LORD in his strength;
seek to serve him constantly.
Recall the wondrous deeds that he has wrought,
his portents, and the judgments he has uttered.

He, the LORD, is our God;

Gospel JN 8:51-59
Jesus said to the Jews:
"Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever keeps my word will never see death."
So the Jews said to him,
"Now we are sure that you are possessed.
Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say,
'Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.'
Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died?
Or the prophets, who died?
Who do you make yourself out to be?"
Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing;
but it is my Father who glorifies me,
of whom you say, 'He is our God.'
You do not know him, but I know him.
And if I should say that I do not know him,
I would be like you a liar.
But I do know him and I keep his word.
Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day;
he saw it and was glad."
So the Jews said to him,
"You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?"
Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you,
before Abraham came to be, I AM."
So they picked up stones to throw at him;
but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.

Primera lectura
Gn 17, 3-9
Cuando Dios se le apareció, Abram se postró con el rostro en el suelo y Dios le dijo:
"Aquí estoy. Ésta es la alianza que hago contigo: Serás padre de una multitud de pueblos. Ya no te llamarás Abram, sino Abraham, porque te he constituido como padre de muchas naciones.
Te haré fecundo sobremanera; de ti surgirán naciones y de ti nacerán reyes. Contigo y con tus descendientes, de generación en generación, establezco una alianza perpetua para ser el Dios tuyo y de tus descendientes. A ti y a tus descendientes les daré en posesión perpetua toda la tierra de Canaán, en la que ahora vives como extranjero; y yo seré el Dios de ustedes''.
Después le dijo Dios a Abraham: "Cumple, pues, mi alianza, tú y tu posteridad, de generación en generación".

Salmo 104, 4-5. 6-7. 8-9
R. (8a) El Señor nunca olvida sus promesas.
Recurran al Señor y a su poder,
búsquenlo sin descanso.
Recuerdan los prodigios que él ha hecho,
sus portentos y oráculos.

Descendientes de Abrahán, su servidor,
estirpe de Jacob, su predilecto,
escuchen: el Señor es nuestro Dios,
y gobiernan la tierra sus decretos.

se olvidará el Señor de sus promesas,
de la alianza pactada con Abraham,

Evangelio
Jn 8, 51-59
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los judíos: "Yo les aseguro: el que es fiel a mis palabras no morirá para siempre".
Los judíos le dijeron: "Ahora ya no nos cabe duda de que estás endemoniado. Porque Abraham murió y los profetas también murieron, y tú dices: 'El que es fiel a mis palabras no morirá para siempre'. ¿Acaso eres tú más que nuestro padre Abraham, el cual murió? Los profetas también murieron. ¿Quién pretendes ser tú?"
Contestó Jesús: "Si yo me glorificara a mí mismo, mi gloria no valdría nada. El que me glorifica es mi Padre, aquel de quien ustedes dicen: 'Es nuestro Dios', aunque no lo conocen. Yo, en cambio, sí lo conozco; y si dijera que no lo conozco, sería tan mentiroso como ustedes. Pero yo lo conozco y soy fiel a su palabra. Abraham, el padre de ustedes, se regocijaba con el pensamiento de verme; me vio y se alegró por ello".
Los judíos le replicaron: "No tienes ni cincuenta años, ¿y has visto a Abraham?" Les respondió Jesús: "Yo les aseguro que desde antes que naciera Abraham, Yo Soy".
Entonces recogieron piedras para arrojárselas, pero Jesús se ocultó y salió del templo.
